Contract Extension

When/if you get offered a room in a DIS Kollegium, you will be offered a standard 3-year contract. You will move out 14 days prior to the end date on your contract.

If you would like to stay longer than your 3-year contract allows, you are welcome to apply for a 2-year extension of the contract by following the guidelines listed below. It is not possible to apply for more or less than a 2-year extension.

5 months before your contract ends, you will automatically receive an email from the kollegium administration team about your possibility to extend.

DIS does not automatically grant requests about extension, but looks at each case individually. If you have a “påbud”, because you have violated the housing rules at the DIS Kollegiums, you will not be considered for extension.

An extension of your rental contract can be agreed upon if there is a mutual interest between DIS and you, as well as an understanding of what is expected of you as a continued resident.

If you apply for extension, you might be called for a meeting with the Kollegium Community Advisor. Please note that if you live in a couple’s room, you are allowed to apply on behalf of both of you.

In order to be considered for a contractual extension, a Permanent Resident must meet the same requirements as a new applicant:

  • Be actively studying in Denmark (or have applied for your upcoming studies). Different from new applicants, you are not required to have a full year remaining of your education when you apply for an extension
  • Have a valid residence permit in Denmark

When considering a contract extension, we encourage you to reflect on the age gap between you and the DIS students, and what you hope to gain in the additional time you would be living in the kollegium.

If you get a 2-year extension: 

  • It is not possible to extend this further
  • It is your responsibility to terminate your lease, once you finish your studies
  • You are not required to live at the Kollegium for the full length of the contract – you may always terminate your lease with three months notice

If you do not apply for an extension, please note that we will automatically look for a new Permanent Resident for your room when less than 2 months remains of your contract.
